Twilight Racing

This week there was a good turnout for the bi-weekly fun racing in Optimist dinghies. There was a good wind and breaking waves which promised some interesting racing.

Even before the start there were a few capsizes and lots of bailing as sailors soon leant to  stay away from the bow as these small boats are not really meant to be sailed by heavyweight adults.

Once the racing started it was evident that there were a couple of racing snakes in the pack. I made a slow start in about fourth or fifth place but managed to pull up to third around the windward mark making up one place on the first reach and catching the leader  at the end of the second reach as he was not sure of the course.

We split tags on the beat, the leader going offshore and I stayed inshore followed closely by by the  third  and 4th placed boats one of whom slipped past me before the windward mark, dropping me back to third. The penultimate reach would be the decisive leg with three of us within a few boats lengths, initial I was up to windward and the two ahead started to head up so I ducked to leeward and gybed around the wing mark to take the lead, there after it was a matter of staying calm and staying ahead of the racing snakes as they attempted to pass to windward.  The finish was very close as we tried to surf the waves and at one stage I though I had lost as I hit the back of a wave and the second boat surfed up to my stern.

Following the racing we all gathered for dinner and prize giving at the Sutera Harbour Marina Club. The Handicap system which ensures the prizes are spread amongst the fleet resulted in the 2nd, 5th  and 6th boats  being awarded prize. One boat retired after a couple of capsizes and losing his bailer which meant he had to use his cap as a makeshift bailer.

Pirate Wins Twilight Race at Sutera Harbour Marine

Yes, There are still pirates in the waters off Kota Kinabalu. One of the owners of Pirates Rib Shack Diner took on the crews from visiting yachts and beat them all at their own game, sailing in Optimist Dinghies in the fortnightly  twilight sailing fun event.

Some nine boats contested the event in light winds and it took a long time to reach the windward mark, some wondering if they would ever make it. Competition was quite fierce at the front but gradually the Pirate sailed through the fleet to take the lead at the windward mark. Three of the crew of a visiting super yacht made a determined effort to catch up with the Mate heading the Navigator and the Captain to the line.

The next race in two weeks time promises an interesting  return match

Natural Pain Relief and Home Business Success

You have to read this story about Tula Savisky. These testimonies just fire off my jets and launch me into another mission orbit. I love hearing how people are having life transformations with TriVita.

Desperate to lose weight

Although there are an ever-growing number of diet books, plans and groups, many people just want to achieve weight loss by sensible healthy eating, rather than following a particular fad or fashion. But where to start your weight loss program? Well, the most basic and probably one of the best guides that you have, is your own common sense.

Most dieters these days have already amassed enough information about what is and isn’t good for weight loss, to be able to decide whether or not a particular food is healthy, or is likely to help, hinder or otherwise affect their diet.

Very often it all comes down to a matter of balance. You know that there are certain things that, unless you have particular medical problems, are generally thought to be good foods that can help you to be healthier and lose those extra pounds.

Most dieticians would agree that eating good portions of fresh fruit and vegetables every day is going to be good for you. Also unless you are on a low carb weight loss diet whole grain foods such as pasta, whole grain bread and rice are usually accepted as being beneficial, both generally and for weight loss.

These days drinking is also very much in focus for those who wish to achieve both weight loss and a benefit to their health. It is generally thought that too much alcohol is not a good and may bring about a variety of health problems, although small amounts may not be a bad thing.

Water, especially spring water, is thought by many nutritionists to be very beneficial to the health and there are some who say that it can also be helpful to those who are concerned about weight loss. Lean meat and fish and also the occasional portion of oily fish such as salmon, are another group of foods that are usually thought to be beneficial to weight loss and general health. And also seeds, pulses and many dieticians recommend nuts as being beneficial.

There are, of course, many foods that are not generally recommended by dieticians as be effective for weight loss, such as refined sugar products and many fried and especially deep fried foods, such as French Fries. Although a certain amount of olive oil is recommended by many health professionals.

It is of course not just the food that you eat, but the way that you eat it that is thought to have an effect both on your health and your weight loss. Many people skip breakfast but many health professionals believe that this is not a good way, to either start the day, or to achieve any kind of weight loss benefit.

Generally it is a matter of good sense and a reasonable knowledge of what foods are good and should be eaten daily and what are not so good and should be eaten only occasionally. Despite having the ability to work out their own diet many still buy the many diet books that are on offer to have a specific plan to work to.

Some find that it helps to have it written down so that they know whether to eat a particular food or not. But if you want to there is no reason why you should not be able to decide on a good diet and healthy weight loss plan, although it is always a good idea to check with your doctor before you start a new diet.

Desperate to lose weight

63 people attend a Buffet luncheon which launched Sonoran Bloom Nopalea in Orlando hosted by Michael Ellison, local affiliates shared the Sonoran Bloom experience with others. A Number of new Affiliates were signed up after the luncheon

Start by setting yourself and easy goal such as exercising 3 times a week for 20 minutes. do not Worry how intense the work is you can build that up in time and also add further sessions.

If you are looking to lose weight again set up some realistic goals draw up a plan and stick to it. You need to be disciplined and strong willed and it will be hard in the beginning. you will need both an exercise and a diet plan for fast weight loss.

Some people like to exercise in the comfort of their own home, other prefer to socialise with others at a health club or gym where they can share experiences and tips. You could eat a perfect diet and exercise until your face turns blue and still have a difficult time losing fat if you're not careful with your alcohol consumption.

Did you know that alcohol has 7 calories per gram, almost as much as fat (9 calories per gram), and almost twice as many calories as a gram of carbohydrate or protein (4 calories each per gram). So even just a couple of drinks can set you back 300 - 400 calories.

In addition, when you consume alcohol at the same time as food, your body tends to burn the alcohol first, before burning fat.

Suppose, for example, you cut your calories from fat down to a recommended 20 percent. That's great. But if you consume 10 percent of your daily calories (approximately 2-3 drinks) from alcohol, it is as though your diet has 40 percent fat, proportionate to calories.

Furthermore, studies show that alcohol makes people hungrier; and at the same time, it lowers their inhibitions, so they are more likely to binge. The more you drink, the less you care about what you are eating and how it might be sabotaging your progress.

As you can see, fat loss is not nearly as easy or effective if you drink too much alcohol. This is not to say you have to cut out alcohol altogether. Alcohol, just like fat, cholesterol, salt, and sugar, may be consumed in moderation.

If you drink on a regular basis, try cutting back to one glass, or a glass every other night, or just on the weekends. Also, try a light beer with fewer calories. And when you have a cocktail, use diet soda or Crystal Lite as the mixer. you may be surprised with your weight loss result.
